Studies on factors influencing growth and sclerotial formation of Rhizoctonia solani f.sp. Corticium sasakii incitant of sheath blight of rice (Oryza sativa L.)
The effects of temperature, C and N sources and pH on the mycelial growth and sclerotia formation of R. solani, causal agent of sheath blight of rice, were investigated in vitro. Mycelial growth and sclerotia formation were maximum at 25 degrees C, followed by 30 degrees. Of the C sources tested, dextrose was the most favourable. None of the N sources favoured mycelial growth, although many sclerotia were formed in asparagine, potassium nitrate and urea treated plates.
