Studies on germination conditions and stress resistance of Hordeum brevisubulatum seeds

Effects of temperature, seed treatment, salinity and water stress on germination of Hordeum brevisubulatum were investigated. The optimum germination temperature was alternating temperatures of either 15/25 degrees C or 20/30 degrees C. Prechilling was effective for breaking seed dormancy. The seeds were resistant to salt stress, and were more resistant to NaCl than Na2SO4. The critical salt stress value for germination was -1.34 MPa in NaCl and -1.13 MPa in Na2SO4.
