There are 3 types of ridges in paddy fields, categorised as ridges for travel, ridges at the end of the field, and ridges at the side of the field. This paper describes the detection of these soil ridges, i.e. the determination of the soil-water interface, for use on agricultural robots. The ridge edges were detected using differential calculus processing with a modified Kirsch operator. Ridge lines were determined using the Hough transformation.
