This report was commissioned by the UK DFID as part of a project for the benefit of developing countries. It examines whether growing trees in forest plantations (where they are an increasingly important resource) is a technology that can work in the long run, and whether plantation silviculture is biologically sound or may eventually lead to insuperable problems.
