Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) was established with money from the government of Tamil Nadu (India) and the World Bank to increase both the national production of paper and the use of sugarcane bagasse. The annual bagasse requirement of the mill is approximately 800 000 t, which is procured from local sugar factories in return for installation of coal-fired boilers.
