After being exposed to frost in December 1996 (-25 degrees C) in the field, the leaves, flower buds, wood and cambium of 131 sweet cherry cultivars at the Dresden-Pillnitz Fruit Genebank, Germany, were examined for damage. The previous year, shoots of 38 cultivars were screened for responses to temperature in the laboratory. Correlations between the results after natural and artificial freezing were determined.
