The aphid parasitoid Aphelinus abdominalis (Hym.: Aphelinidae) for biological control of Macrosiphum euphorbiae on tomatoes grown in unheated plastic greenhouses

The effectiveness was evaluated of releasing Aphelinus abdominalis in order to control aphids (mainly Macrosiphum euphorbiae) in unheated greenhouses growing spring tomatoes in Spain. Although aphid populations developed in some foci, no sooty mould appeared. A. abdominalis did establish in the crop, altogether with indigenous predators (Aphidoletes aphidimyza, Macrolophus caliginosus, Dicyphus tamaninii).
