Abstract
Bovine herpesvirus type-1 (BHV-1) Hindll L fragments were cloned into bacteriophage M13 and sequenced. Immune sera against glutathione-S-transferase-UL3.5 fusion protein detected a 13 kDa protein in Western blots of BHV-1 infected Madin-Darby bovine kidney cells. BHV-1 UL3.5 protein was a late gene product limited to the cytoplasm and incorporated into the membrane or tegument of virions. UL3.5 was not present in the nucleocapsid, and the absence of a transmembrane anchor suggested that it was not within the membrane.
