The effect of MHS genotype on fattening and carcass performance traits of purebred Pietrain pigs and PI x DL slaughter pigs at a testing station

Using a BLUP animal model, data were analysed on carcass and meat characters of pigs that were homozygous stress-susceptible (PP), homozygous stress-resistant (NN) and heterozygous (NP). 434 of the pigs were purebred Pietrain progeny of 150 boars and 286 sows of known genotype for malignant hyperthermia or porcine stress syndrome (MHS), and 64 of the pigs were Pietrain x German Landrace crossbreds of the NN or NP genotypes.
