The effect of arsenic on the growth of rice and residues in a loam paddy soil

The effect of arsenic on the growth of rice and residues in a loam paddy soil

Journal of Jilin Agricultural University 18(3): 58-61

In pot experiments rice was grown on loam paddy soil with available arsenic contents of 1.3, 6.0, 7.8 or 10.3 mg/kg and total arsenic contents of 1.3, 27.7, 36.6 and 56.0 mg/kg, respectively. Increasing the level of arsenic decreased plant height, number of effective tillers, dry weight of aboveground parts and 1000-grain weight. Yields decreased from 48.7 g/pot with the lowest rate of arsenic to 17.9 g with the highest rate.
