The effect of dwarf rootstocks and interstems on growth, yield and leaf mineral content of three apple cultivars Part I. Growth and yield

In an experiment at Prusy, apple cultivars Delikates, Empire and Alwa were grafted on M.26, M.9, P 1, P 2, P 16, P 22 or B 9 rootstocks or P 2 or B 9 interstocks. The smallest trees were on P 22. Rootstock P 16 was also very dwarfing. P1 and M.26 rootstocks were the most vigorous. Fruit yield was closely related to tree size. The highest yields were harvested from the largest trees, both in first years of fruiting (1984-87) and during the full cropping period (1988-89).
