The effect of shade on the bark yield components of cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum J. Pres) intercropped with rubber (Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg.)

The effect of shade on the yield components of Cinnamomum verum intercropped with rubber (clone RRIC 100) was investigated in a commercial plantation in Sri Lanka. Monocropped C. zeylanicum was compared with C. zeylanicum under 2.5, 5.0 or 8.0 year-old rubber trees. Average percentage PAR transmission through the rubber canopies was 53, 21 and 5% under the 2.5-, 5.0- and 8.0-year-old trees, respectively. The number of shoots/bush and mature shoot length were highest in plants under 21% light.
