The effect of weaning age on foal growth and radiographic bone density



Journal of Equine Veterinary Science 18(5): 335-340



Seven foals weaned at 4.5 months were compared with 8 foals weaned at 6.0 months at 3-week intervals before and after weaning. Average daily gain (ADG) declined significantly in the first week after weaning in both weaning groups, and remained lower than preweaning gain in foals weaned at 6.0 months at 3 weeks after weaning.
