The effects of methionine supplementation to soybean meal (SBM)-based diets on the growth and whole body-carcass chemical composition of tilapia (T. zillii)

The effects of methionine supplementation to soybean meal (SBM)-based diets on the growth and whole body-carcass chemical composition of tilapia (T. zillii)

Turkish Journal of Zoology, 232: 173-178

Twelve glass aquaria were each stocked with 15 T. zillii fingerlings, 9.95 g mean weight, and assigned to 6 diets supplemented with 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5% free methionine (the same amounts of alpha -cellulose were removed) for 62 days. The best growth rate and feed conversion efficiency were observed in the group supplemented with 0.5% methionine (total 1.38% methionine+cystine). Methionine supplementation affected whole body protein content (P<0.05).
