cDNAs for ethylene synthesizing enzymes (1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) synthase and ACC oxidoreductase) were isolated from A. deliciosa and characterized. Expression studies showed that ACC oxidase transcripts were detected more strongly in columella than in other tissues of pre-climacteric fruits. In contrast, ACC synthase transcripts were not detected at this stage.
