The structure and prospects of fruit culture in Yugoslavia

The total area under orchards in Yugoslavia amounts to 268 000 ha, with 99 881 000 trees, including subtropical fruit crops (1994 records). plums are the commonest (52.3%), followed by apples (16.4%), sour cherries (10.4%), pears (7.70%), peaches (4.5%), sweet cherries (2.4%), walnuts (2.1%), apricots (1.9%), quinces (1.2%), olives (0.4%), figs (0.25%) and citrus (0.25%). An account is presented of the most frequently grown cultivars of major fruit crops.
