Variability in young Barbados cherry plants propagated from seed

Variability in young Barbados cherry plants propagated from seed

Agropecuaria Catarinense 11(1): 16-18

Since the discovery of high ascorbic acid contents (994-2520 mg/100 g in mature fruits and up to 3175 mg/100 g in green fruits), large scale cultivation of Malpighia glabra has spread to satisfy commercial needs. Since great variation has been observed in seedlings grown from the same seed sample, observations were made in a nursery in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, following sowing in January 1993.
