Varietal difference in salinity tolerance during germination stage of rice

This study was conducted to investigate desirable screening conditions for salinity tolerance during the germination stage in rice. Seeds of 33 rice varieties were tested in NaCl solutions at concentration levels (0 to 400 mM). Germination percentage decreased with increasing NaCl concentration, with 50% germination occurring at 320 mM. Standard deviation of germination percentage was highest (28.6) under 300 mM NaCl.
