Yield and uptake of major nutrients by direct seeded rice under pulse intercropping system

In field experiments during the 1992 kharif season at the National Pulses Research Centre, Vamban, India, rice ADT 36 was grown alone or intercropped with black gram VBG 1, green gram VGG 1 or soyabean Co 1 at 2:1, 3:1 or 4:1 row ratios. N, P and K uptake by rice was greatest when intercropped with black gram at a 4:1 row ratio. Nutrient uptake was lowest at the tillering stage and increased to reach a maximum at flowering.
