Yield effect and soil improvement with the use of various crop rotations and fertilizer application systems in red loam paddy fields

In field plot trials rotations of wheat and rice were given 34, 67 or 68 t farmyard manure/ha or 450 kg NPK fertilizer/ha. Yields from an early wheat crop in a wheat/early rice/late rice rotation were highest at 3.26 t/ha with the intermediate rate of manure, while the high rate of manure gave 3.19 t and NPK fertilizer gave 2.52 t/ha. In the early and late rice crops yields were highest at 5.02 and 5.62 t/ha, respectively, with the highest rate of manure.
