A comparison of the number of thrips on leek cultivated in monocrop and intercropping with high and low-growing white clover

Leek Jolant was grown as a monocrop or was planted with high-growing white clover Santa and low-growing Palestine when clover was at the 2- to- 3-leaf stage, on 19-20 June, 1998, in Warsaw, Poland. The white clover varieties were sown on 14 May. Ten leek plants were collected every 10-14 days over the whole season. The appearance of thrips was noted on 30 June. The highest average number of thrips was observed on 23 September on monocropped leek (average of 2.1 insects per plant).
