A sectoral analysis of poverty in Pakistan

A sectoral analysis of poverty in Pakistan

Pakistan Development Review 38(4): 859-872

This study examines the sectoral trends and patterns of poverty in Pakistan using HIES data for the years 1987/88-1990/91. The empirical evidence indicates that poverty has increased by all dimensions (incidence, intensity and severity) in almost all sectors during the period. There are also wide variations in the incidence of poverty among different sectors. Construction, agriculture and manufacturing are the badly affected sectors.
