A simple technique to estimate, in situ, population densities of an entomopathogenic nematode (Heterorhabditis indica) in sandy soils

A modified Galleria-trap technique used to study the persistence, growth and dispersion of entomophilic nematodes was tested on H. indica in sandy soils, in the field and laboratory. In all experiments, late larval instars of G. mellonella inside pierced Eppendorf tubes were used as bait. There was a strong correlation between the number of nematodes present in sandy soil and the number infesting an insect.
