A study of the distribution of Ixodes ricinus (Linn., 1758) (Acarina: Ixodoidea) in relation to the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi in Brittany: infectious risk for humans
The distribution of Borrelia burgdorferi (the causal agent of Lyme disease) and its vector Ixodes ricinus was carried out in 3 forests. in Brittany, France. As nymphs are regarded as the most important stage for transmission, their seasonal dynamics were studied and they were tested for the presence of B. burgdorferi. In view of the results, attempts were made to evaluate the risk for humans to be infected by B. burgdorferi.
