This study investigates the potential of using state-of-the-art photogrammetric and remote sensing technologies to acquire agricultural geographic information. The categories and properties of agricultural geographic information are summarized. The inadequacy of current parcel maps is revealed. The potential and procedures of state-of-the-art photogrammetric and remote sensing technologies are introduced. The integration of photogrammetric and remote sensing technologies with the geographic information system is promoted. A paddy rice inventory system was developed as an example of its applications. This system includes the procedure of registering images onto parcel maps and an interface to view images with parcels and to input interpretation data. This system demonstrates a more efficient and accurate procedure than the current image interpretation system employed by the government. It is expected that this system can be applied for the acquisition of other types of agricultural data.
