Behavioural response of drone honey bees, Apis mellifera carnica and Apis mellifera scutellata, to worker-produced pheromone components

Behavioural response of drone honey bees, Apis mellifera carnica and Apis mellifera scutellata, to worker-produced pheromone components

Journal of Apicultural Research 39(3/4): 149-152

A study was conducted to investigate the behavioural response of drone honey bees, A. mellifera carnica and A. mellifera scutellata, to the pheromone components isopentyl acetate (IPA) and geraniol, and the non-pheromone octanal in 3 different experiments. Mature drones of flight age (over 6 days old) of both subspecies caught from different colonies (n>=3) were used in all tests.
