The term sandy natural forests (SNF) is applied to the coniferous and broadleaved forest communities which are the ecosystems in the sandy forest-steppe ecotone in northern China (Nei Menggu). They do not include Populus euphratica forest in the desert steppe zone (Maomusu Sandy Land) or Haloxylon ammodendron forest in the desert zone (Talimu River Bank). There are 3 areas of SNF in the sandy forest-steppe ecotone in northern China.
