Chlorophyll fluorescence as an indicator of drought stress in hybrid Pennisetum

Changes in induced chlorophyll a fluorescence kinetics were determined when hybrid pennisetum (Pennisetum purpureum) plants were watered to field capacity (FC) or to 80, 60, 50 and 35 per cent of field capacity. There were no changes in the non-variable fluorescence (Fa) emission. The other parameters, maximum (Fm) and variable (Fv) fluorescence, Fv/Fm, Fm/Fo and t1/2 all decreased when the watering level was reduced but were reversible within 24 hours of rewatering to field capacity.
