Cryptococcus neoformans in patients with AIDS

Cryptococcus neoformans in patients with AIDS

Samples of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from 50 patients from Brazil, with neurocryptococcosis associated with AIDS, were studied. The fungi were isolated in agar Sabouraud medium, and were identified by microscopic and macroscopic examination on Sabouraud's agar, agar niger and Christensen's urea medium. The variety of C. neoformans was determined based on a colour characteristic reaction on glycine-L-canavanine-bromothymol blue agar.
