Determination of trace metals bound to soil humic acid species by size excusion chromatography and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry

An analytical methodology for interfacing HSPEC (High Performance Size Exclusion Chromatography) and ICPMS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) to determine qualitatively trace metal binding profiles in humic acid (HA) is presented. ICPMS gave a quantitative determination of As, Pb, Cu, and Zn, and a semiquantitative analysis of Mn, Al, Fe, Mo, Co, Cr, Ti, Sr and V in the HA sample. The total trace metal analysis showed that Cu and Pb appeared in large concentrations.
