A field experiment was conducted at Varanasi, India during the rainy seasons of 1996-97 and 1997-98. Pigeon pea (var. Bahar) based intercropping systems involving 3 intercrops (black gram var. T9, sesame var. GT 1 and okra var. Parbhanikranthi) and 3 planting patterns of pigeon pea (60 cm normal planting (A), 30+90 cm paired row planting (B) and 40+80 cm paired row planting (C)) were studied.
