This paper deals with the effect of alternate chilling and heating treatment on teak fruit to overcome mechanical dormancy due to hard stony endocarp. Without removing the mesocarp teak seed germinated very easily only after chilling/heating treatment. Water uptake by seeds as evident by the presence of water in the loculae when intact teak fruit was soaked in water indicates that teak fruit is not impermeable to water.
