A field experiment was conducted in Uttar Pradesh, India during the 1995 and 1996 wet seasons to study the effect of crop weed competition on weed growth and on the yield and nutrient uptake in direct-seeded rice (Oryza sativa Mahasuri). Weed flora of the experimental field included Cynodon dactylon, Echinochloa crus-galli, Leptochloa chinensis, Cyperus rotundus, Cyperus difformis, Fimbristylis miliacea and Commelina benghalensis.
