Effect of feeding flaxseed to laying hens on the performance and egg quality and fatty acid composition of egg yolk

A 12-week experiment was conducted using 36 Lohmann LSL laying hens, 43 weeks of age, to examine the effect of feeding a mixture of ground or whole flaxseed (5% and 10%) with other fibre ingredients on hen performance and egg quality, and fatty acid composition of egg yolk. Diets varied in linolenic acid. Body weight and hen day production was not affected by the type of diet while daily feed intake was affected (P<0.05).
