In field experiments in 1998-99 in Assiut, Egypt, groundnuts Giza 5 were not inoculated (I0) or seed inoculated with Bradyrhizobium strain USDA 3339 (I1) or USDA 3341 (I2) or both (I3), and were given 0, 20 or 40 kg N/feddan. Yield, seed protein and N percentages and plant dry weight were increased by N application, with 20 kg having the greatest effect. Oil percentage was greatest in plants not given fertilizer. Nodule dry weight decreased with increasing N rate.
