A field experiment was conducted on maize R-2 during kharif 1990 and 1991. Ridging and furrowing between the crop rows 25 days after planting increased yield attributes, yield and nitrogen uptake as compared to flat seedbeds. Root development and moisture use efficiency were also higher with ridging and furrowing.
