Seeds of 6 groundnut cultivars were exposed to 0,25,50,75 and 100% concentrations of paper mill effluent. Paper mill effluent was alkaline and contained a large amount of suspended and dissolved solids which resulted in high biological and chemical oxygen demands. Seed germination percentage, and seedling growth and dry weight decreased with increasing effluent concentration. Cv. CO.2 showed the lowest percentage decreases over control values.
