Effect of phosphorus and lime on soil acidity, forms of aluminium and yield of blackgram (Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper)

In a field experiment during kharif 1995 at Shillongani, Assam, India, blackgram T-9 was given 0, 20, 40 or 60 kg P/ha and 0, 25, 50, 75 or 100% of the lime requirement (4.04 t/ha). Soil pH increased and all forms of soil acidity decreased with increasing lime rate, while exchangeable acidity and total acidity decreased with increasing P rate. The decrease in soil acidity was accompanied by reduction in the forms of Al with application of lime and P.
