Effect of postharvest treatments on physiology and quality of green mume fruit (Prunus mume Sieb. et Zucc.)

Effect of postharvest treatments on physiology and quality of green mume fruit (Prunus mume Sieb. et Zucc.)

Acta Horticulturae Sinica 27(5): 326-330

Postharvest physiology and quality changes were investigated in Prunus mume fruits stored at room temperature or stored for 35 days at 1 degrees C plus 2 days at 20 degrees C. Fruit respiration was climacteric. Flesh firmness and titratable acidity decreased rapidly. Of several treatments for improving storage life, the use of an ethylene absorbant was the most effective, followed by gibberellic acid treatment (20 or 40 mg/litre). CaCl2 at 2% was also a suitable treatment.
