Effect of rootstocks on growth and fruiting of 'Jonagold' apple trees

The experiment was carried out on a fertile silty loam alluvial soil at the Wilanow Experimental Orchard of the Department of Pomology, Warsaw Agricultural University in spring 1991. Jonagold apple trees were planted on 8 rootstocks: M.26, M.9 sub-clones 751 and 984, P 14, P 60, P 2, P 16 and P 2. In general, Jonagold apple trees grown on P 22 exhibited the lowest vigour and trees on P 14 the highest. Trees on P 16, P 60, P 22 and both sub-clones of M.9 were intermediate in size.
