The effect of sewage sludge on the survival of bradyrhizobia in calcareous loamy soil, collected at Dirab, Saudi Arabia, was studied in the laboratory. The impact of sludge amendment and inoculation with bradyrhizobia strains of varying effectiveness on the nodulation and N2 fixation of soyabean cultivars Cabrillo and Bedford was investigated in the greenhouse. Uptake of microelements by plants following sludge amendment was also determined.
