Effectiveness of formic acid on varroa mortality in capped brood cells of Africanized honey bees

The effectiveness of formic acid on varroa mortality was evaluated in capped brood cells in a study carried out in Heredia, Costa Rica (Central Valley) Nine colonies of Africanized honey bees (hybrid of Apis mellifera scutellata) infested by Varroa jacobsoni were tested. All colonies were housed in Langstroth hives, each containing between 10 and 14 combs of adult bees and 3-5 combs of sealed brood. They were arranged in 3 groups (A, B and C) of 3 hives each.
