Three selection methods (random selection, and selection of superior and poor seedlings) were compared using seedlings of 3 open crosses of sugarcane (Co 1148GC, Co 7704GC and CoH 7803GC) in 1994. Differences among superior, random and poor seedlings were evident in the mean performance for recorded traits (millable stalks/clump, stalk diameter, stalk height, single stalk weight, stalk yield/clump and hand refractometer Brix).
