Evaluation of the influence of omega -3 polyunsaturated fatty acids of fish and vegetable origin on the the fatty acid composition of erythrocyte lipids in patients with ischaemic heart disease complicated by impaired glucose tolerance

The effect of an anti-atherogenic diet supplemented with Eicolen (30% linseed oil and 70% cod liver oil, 9 g per day) was assessed in 10 patients with ischaemic heart disease and in 11 patients with ischaemic heart disease complicated by impaired glucose tolerance. The omega -3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) of fish and vegetable origin from Eicolen improved the clinical condition of both groups, and modified erythrocyte membrane fatty acid composition.
