Papaya mosaic virus (PapMV) was detected in Mexico in infected pawpaw (Carica papaya) plants growing alone and in mixed plantations with pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo). Double-antibody sandwich ELISA and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction procedures identified 2 Mexican isolates of PapMV, viz. YY-15 (accession number AYO17186) and YY-22 (accession number AYO17187), from pawpaw and pumpkin, respectively, with a crude protein similarity of 94%, therefore, representing 2 variants of PapMV.
