Using the chemical mutagen ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS), mutants with increased seed size (bold seed) and reduced kernel shrivelling (plump seed) were induced in hexaploid triticale TL 419. Mutants were isolated from M2 segregating spike progenies. Both the mutants were reciprocally crossed separately with the parent triticale. The phenotype of the grains was recorded in F1 and F2 generations, and segregation for the normal and mutant trait was recorded. Chi-square tests were applied to test the goodness of fit for segregation.
