Habitat models for animal species: development, methods and perspectives for their application

This review provides an overview on development, methods and perspectives of habitat modelling. The focus is on statistical models and on expert based habitat models, together with the relation of habitat models to GIS. Concerning statistical models, recent publications favour logistic regression as compared to discriminant analysis. We discuss the preconditions necessary to transfer habitat models in time and space.
