Human orbital dirofilariasis due to Dirofilaria repens. A case contracted on the Atlantic littoral

Medecine et Maladies Infectieuses 29(10): 642-645

A case of human orbital dirofilariasis due to Dirofilaria repens is reported from southwestern France. In France, the previously known geographical range of D. repens was located the southeastern Mediterranean region and Corsica. Human infection is rare: about 60 cases have been reported in France so far. Human dirofilariasis is benign and involves subcutaneous and ocular manifestations; diagnosis is by excisional biopsy, which is also the recommended treatment.
