Two permanent experimental plots were established in the Orlicke mountains, Czech Republic, at altitude 1000 and 1050 m. The health status was evaluated of trees underplanted beneath 60-year-old dying Norway spruce (Picea abies) and planted on a narrow clear-cut strip. Every plot was divided into two parts (25x102 m), which was planted with Picea abies, Larix decidua, Pinus mugo, Fagus sylvatica, Acer pseudoplatanus, Sorbus aucuparia, Betula pendula and Duschekia alnobetula in the same way.
