The article consists of a verbatim address by the President of the Colombian Society of Farmers to the conference on Insurance in the Cattle Sector, Panama, October-November 1999. Following a brief account of the composition of the Society and its activities, the focus of the address shifts to the Colombian experience of insurance in the banana sector, its legal foundations (under Law 69 of 1993) and financial aspects.
